CRUSHED STONE
Crushed stone can be used for many things. This can vary from initial construction right through to decorative purposes at the end. Crushed stone is an aggregate, stone that has been crushed down to a certain size so that it is fit for use. Gravel on the other hand has been worn to size naturally by erosion and is smoother and rounder in comparison.
Crosskeys Plant Hire provides all grades of crushed stone, meaning we have something to suit your requirements. Crushed stone is suitable for a wide range of projects, including drainage and roads.
Crushed stone #67 – Sizes from 3/4″ down to smaller pieces.
Crushed stone #1 – Sizes are from 2″ to 4″. This is the largest of the crushed stone sizes.
Crushed stone #5 – Sizes are from 1″ downwards.
Crushed stone #8 – Sizes from 3/8″ to 1/2″.
Crushed stone #3 -Sizes from 1/2″ to 2″.
Crushed stone #10 – stone dust
Crushed stone #57 – Sizes of about 3/4″.
Crushed stone #411 – A mixture of stone dust and #57 stone.
USES FOR CRUSHED STONE;
Used as a road base
Used as filler in sites, gardens etc.
Used as a concrete mix
Can be used for drainage including French Drains.
Smaller particles used in riding arenas
Can be used for retaining walls
Paths or walkways – this can be a cheap alternative to tarmacadam
Agricultural Drainage
TOPSOIL
Top soil is the very upper layer of soil (approx. the top two inches). We deliver only the finest quality topsoil, which has been screened for large stones etc. It is ideal for growing lawns, plants and so on, as this is where plants tend to grow their roots.
USES FOR TOPSOIL;
Creating gardening beds. This is mixed with the existing soil to create a nutrient rich environment for plants to grow.
Repair Lawns. Topsoil can be used to fill in any holes or dips in lawns.
Drainage. The use of topsoil can help to improve drainage in areas of sites / lawns that have a tendency to become waterlogged.
Can be used as a base for children’s play areas.
